The Stories We Tell….
This is a Chain. An ornament we wear around our neck. What utility does it have? Aesthetics. That’s it. It looks pretty.
But is it just that? Okay, let me elaborate.
It’s a Gold Chain and it is worth a certain weight of the metal. Now, it’s aesthetics and satisfaction for parents to buy their daughter a gold chain.
Is it all?
For me, yes.
But let’s see the stories that are around.
- A Family of 3 burned their newlywed daughter in law because she refused to bring more ornaments from her parents house
- A Family with a household income of 50k per month, considers their daughter wearing a 3Pawn (1.5L) gold chain as a pride whereas the family next doors isn’t satisfied with a 15 Pawn gold chain and doesn’t respect their son in law
- A Husband despises his wife buying a simple gold stud and he says he had to pay for it with 4 days of his time
- A 30 year old man killed a 34 year old lady as he tried to snatch this chain that she was wearing to work
- A Man went to a lifetime of debt just to buy his daughter more jewels so, she can live happily. (Does a Chain make someone happy??)
Stories after stories after stories.
but there it is.
Now, as I lay this in my table I look at what it exactly is.
Its a wire made of a Metal, Gold. Its priced at around 1.3L because of the rarity of the metal.
Does it hold any other significance? To me Personally — No.
If I have to think of it as a necessity in mu life, will I? NO
But, is it actually killing people? YES! A LOOOOOOTTTTTTT.
Summary? Its not about WHAT IT IS, but rather about — the stories we tell ourselves. The Narrative we let pieces hold.
Point is, we cannot change the stories we HEARD. But, we can change the stories we CREATE.
So, Are you going to care more about it? The Metal Wire around your neck?
